Global Education Network between FAB and Seifu Nankai High School, Japan

On the 18 th  and 19 th  of March 2016, a group of 26 students and 2 teachers from Seifu Nankai High School, Osaka, Japan made an academic visit to the Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM, Johor Bahru. The group were led by Mr.Toshiyuki Iwawaki and Mr.Toyoda, teachers from the Comprehensive and International Department, Seifu Nankai High School. This was their second visit to FAB under the “Global Education Network Programme” in collaboration with the Centre for Innovative Planning and Development (CiPD), FAB, UTM, JB. The programme is intended to nurture young leaders to play an active role in the betterment of society. In order to achieve its intended goal, the students are required to acquire a wide range of knowledge through seminars focused on economics, societal, technological and political issues. Planning for the Real World! First Year UTM Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning Students’ Visit to the Klang Valley

Towards producing high quality town planners who are able to practically and holistically contribute to more sustainable development of the country, apart from having a forward-looking, innovative, world class Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (B.URP) curriculum, it is highly essential that the B.URP program is designed “for the real world”; and “planning for the real world” begins in the early year of the planning education. With this in view, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru continued with the annual field trip of the First Year, Second Semester’s  Site Planning and Layout Studio  (SBEP1125) on 17-19 March 2016. UTM & IIUM Landscape Architecture Research Design Workshop

A collaboration workshop on research design between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and International Islamic University Of Malaysia (IIUM) was held on 7 March 2016 at Seminar Room 3, B03 Faculty Of Built Environment, UTM. The workshop was organized by the Department Of Landscape Architecture, Faculty Of Built Environment UTM. Experience of Exchange Students on the Asean International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme

The 1st monthly seminar for the 2nd semester 2015/2016 of DURP was held on the 3rd of March 2016 (Thursday) at Lecture Hall B, B04, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB). The seminar was carried out in two (2) parts. The 1st half was a session where students who participated in the AIMS programme at Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU), Japan, shared their experiences. Three students namely, Nurzafirah binti Dan, Anatasia Lee Anak Suring and Beatrice Jenner Anak David Jutin, of the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning Programme, DURP, FAB related their experiences whilst living and studying at TMU from the 2nd of September 2015 to the 29th January 2016. Amongst the experiences highlighted included the preparation before departing for TMU, background of TMU, courses attended at TMU, field studies at Totoro Forest, Nogawa River, Ota City and Daikanyama, facilities at the hostel, transportation from hostel to TMU and the socialising with students from other countries participating in t

Visit by the Department of Real Estate, Faculty of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore (NUS) to the Department of Urban and Regional Planning

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning received a delegation of 20, Fourth Year Undergraduate students from the Department of Real Estate, Faculty of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore (NUS) on the 22nd of February 2016.  The delegation from NUS was headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Lee Kwan Ok and accompanied by Professor Ooi Thian Leong, Joseph and Dr. Masaki Mori.  The Head of Department, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Associate Professor Datin Dr. Norsiah binti Abdul Aziz was present to receive the delegates to the Faculty. The delegates were given a lecture on the Planning System in Malaysia focusing on the Planning of the City of Johor Bahru  and Iskandar Malaysia by Associate Professor Dr. Foziah Johar.  The lecture was one of the modules on Urban Planning in Asian Cities taught at the Department of Real Estate, Faculty of Design and Environment, NUS. Meeting of Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning Students with Academic Advisors, Semester 1- 2015/2016

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment had its meeting of students from Year 1 to Year 4 with the respective Academic Advisors on 18 February (Thursday) 2016 at the Convention Hall, B12.  The meeting began with the presentation of prizes for academic excellence Semester 1 2015/2016 on the basis of the best CGPA to respective students for each Year at the meeting.  Students who received prizes were Josephine Lee Siaw Ling (Year 1),  Siti Nabila binti Mokhtar (Year 2), Zul Waqar bin Khasbollah (Year 3) and Siti Balqis binti Abdul Aziz (Year 4).  Prizes comprising of books entitled “A Town Planning History, Charles Reade, Town Planning British Malaya 1921 – 1929” by Kamalruddin Shamsudin (KL Din), and “Rahsia Melakar Cepat” by Jomaithir bin Johari and Nor Azimah bte Markaban, and certificate were presented to the best students by the Head of Department, Associate Professor Datin Dr.Norsiah binti Abd Aziz. International Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Seminar
