Quantity Surveying Computer Lab officially launched by Ybhg Dato’ Sr Abdul Aziz Abdullah, President of Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM)

Johor Bahru, 21st November 2017: Department of Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment has officially launched its newly upgraded computer lab on 21st November 2017. The official launching ceremony was graced by YBhg Dato’ Sr Abdul Aziz, President of Board of Quantity Surveying Malaysia (BQSM). The ceremony was held to appreciate the generous contribution from the Department of Quantity Surveying alumni in materialising the upgrading process. Initially, the computer lab which is previously known as Quantity Surveying Computer Studio (Studio Komputer Ukur Bahan) was designed with science lab furniture and layout. Not only it deterred the teaching and learning process, it was also unergonomic, supplied with dilapidated and outdated hardware and computer software applications. Faculty of Built Environment selected as one of the Satellite myBIM Centre for CIDB in promoting Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Malaysia

Johor Bahru, 20th November 2017: Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has launched the first one-stop myBIM Centre in Malaysia on 20th November 2017. This RM3 million centre was officially launched by Works Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof.  This centre targets to promote better implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the construction industry.  BIM as the most recent technology used in construction industry, will not only assist construction players in digitalising the representation of building, but also facilitate better collaboration and efficient information exchange between construction parties.  The CIDB’s myBIM centre, which consists of myBIM studio, myBIM lab, conference room and seminar room aims to provide facilities for practitioners to accommodate BIM training programmes. Landscape Architecture Students Won 1ST and 2nd Prize in Kuala Lumpur Orchids Competition

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) won the first and second prize in Kuala Lumpur Orchids and Bonsai show 2017 hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall or DBKL at Taman Pudu Ulu, Cheras. There are three competition teams with a group of five (5) students who are the fourth year, third year and second-year students from Landscape Architecture Department, Faculty of Built Environment was coordinated by Dr Lee Yoke Lai together with two supporting staff (En. UTM Landscape Architecture Students Won the First Prize RM10,000 in Landscape Design Proposal Competition for 3Q Equestrian Centre, Kuang, Rawang

CONGRATULATIONS!   On the 17 th  November 2017, UTM team was announced as the winner for Landscape Design Proposal Competition for 3Q Equestrian Centre, Kuang, Selangor. UTM beat other three universities in this competition (UPM, UITM and UIAM). The winner was selected by the jury, Mr. Bill Bensley from Bensley Studio, Bangkok, Thailand. Bensley Studio is an international company specializing in Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape Design. The team was a combination of 2 nd  year, 3 rd  year and 4 th  year landscape architecture students and supervised by four lecturers – Dr. Zanariah Jasmani, LAr. UTM Landscape Architecture Students Joined 2017 IFLA APR Student Design Charrette Held in Bangkok

On the 29 th  of October till the 1 st  of November 2017, three landscape architecture students from the third year studio class namely; Muhamad Zulhelmy Azmi, Muhamad Taqiy Asshaari and Sharifah Nurul Syafiqa Al-Yahya took part in the Student Design Charrette of IFLA APR Congress held in Bangkok themed: ‘Blue, Green and Culture’. The design charrette was patronized by several well-known practicing Landscape Architects from Thailand and it was hosted by The Chulalongkorn University. This workshop had to bring together landscape architecture students from different countries.  The workshop began with ice-breaking and networking session accompanied by lecturers and other students. UTM-LCARC Exhibits and Promotes Malaysia’s “Science to Action” (S2A) Approach to City-level Climate Change Action Plan-making at COP 23

Bonn, Germany, 12 th  November –  Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the UTM-Low Carbon Asia Research Centre (UTM-LCARC) that is based in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, organises an exhibition and participates in side events at the 23 rd  Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn, Germany, 6-17 November 2017. Prof. TPr. Dr. Ho Chin Siong and TPr. Chau Loon Wai from the Department of Urban Regional Planning lead UTM’s participation at COP 23, which is presided by the island nation of Fiji and hosted by the German Government.  The exhibition marks UTM’s seventh installation at the COP since participating in COP 17 in Durban, South Africa in 2011.  UTM remains the only Malaysian university with an accredited Observer institution status at the COP. UTM-LCARC Co-organises High Profile 3rd International Conference of Low Carbon Asia and 6th LoCARNet Annual Meeting

Bangkok, 1st November – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the UTM-Low Carbon Asia Research Centre (UTM-LCARC), Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, co-organises the three-day 3rdInternational Conference of Low Carbon Asia (ICLCA 2017) and the 6th LoCARNet Annual Meeting with the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonbury (KMUTT) in Bangkok, Thailand.  The ICLCA and LoCARNet annual meeting, which assemble over 150 participants hailing from 16 countries, will see the presentation of six keynotes and some 120 papers that collectively aim at advancing sustainable low carbon emission development in Asia. Program First Year Experience (FYE) 2017, JPBW

Seramai 33 pelajar Tahun 1, Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah (JPBW), Fakulti Alam Bina (FAB) telah dengan jayanya mengikuti Program Perkhemahan Motivasi First Year Experience (FYE) 2017 pada 26-28 Oktober 2017 di Hutan Rekreasi UTM. Program FYE ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan kefahaman awal kepada pelajar mengenai program pengajian, prospek kerjaya, aspirasi jabatan dan UTM, penerapan kemahiran insaniah dan mengeratkan jalinan ukhuwah dengan pelajar senior dan pensyarah. Dengan bantuan 4 orang penyelia Studio 1 dan 15 fasilitator Tahun 2 yang diketuai oleh Muhammad Aqil Afzal bin Roslee, kesemua aktiviti yang dirancang telah berjalan dengan lancar termasuklah Team Building, Night Walk, Jungle Tracking dan Culture Night. Department of Quantity Surveying hosted the 3rd Programme for QS Registration Scheme

Department of Quantity Surveying successfully hosted the 3rd Programme for QS Registration Scheme (PQRS 3.0) held at Grand Banquet Hall, Residensi UTMKL, Kuala Lumpur. The event was held on 24th October 2017 with theme focuses on ‘Why Am I a QS?’. Co-organized with Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia, this event provides a platform for QS graduates to catalyze the journey of young QS in becoming registered QS in the near future as well as to be part of the professional cluster agenda. 14th International Congress of Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA 2017), Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM sent the largest delegation to the recent 14th International Congress of Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA 2017). The Congress was held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China from 12-14 October 2017. Twenty-three (23) UTM delegates comprising of 9 lecturers and 14 students led by Prof. Dato’ TPr. Dr. Ahmad Nazri Muhamad Ludin presented a total of 20 papers and 3 posters to more than 150 international participants. “Reshaping Urban and Rural Development through Planning” was the main theme of APSA 2017 and it featured papers/presentations/posters across six tracks encompassing, Governance, Identity Heritage, Solidarity Equity, Smart Intelligence, Sustainability Environment and Planning & Education. 357 mahasiswa senibina sertai NEON’ 17

JOHOR BAHRU , 19 Ogos 2017 – Seramai 357 orang mahasiswa jurusan senibina dari seluruh negara telah menyertai  The 29th Annual Architectural Student Workshop  (NEON) 2017 yang dianjurkan oleh Fakulti Alam Bina dengan kerjasama Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM). Program itu dirasmikan oleh Presiden Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), Ar. Ezumi Harzani Ismail bertempat di Dewan Sultan Iskandar. RM150 ribu dikumpul untuk Kembara Lestari Komuniti Kemboja 2017

JOHOR BAHRU, 17 Ogos 2017 – Sebanyak RM150 ribu berjaya dikumpulkan menerusi sumbangan warga kampus, pertubuhan, persatuan dan individu dari dalam dan  luar Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) bagi menjayakan Program Kembara Lestari Komuniti Kemboja 2017. Antara sumbangan yang diterima adalah daripada rakan strategik EM Malaysia Group, Sekolah Agama Rakyat Sri Seremban dan Pejabat Alumni UTM, Alumni Sekolah Alam Shah dan PERTISAS. UTM Second Year B Sc Architecture Student Wins Malaysian Wood Award 1st Prize at the Malaysian Timber Council Silver Jubilee

Muhammad Aizat bin Anuar 2 SBEA, won the first prize in the Malaysian Wood Awards Student Building Category of the prestigious Malaysian Timber Council Silver Jubilee Celebrations held at the Shangri-la Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 26 July 2017. The top award carries with it a Cash Prize of RM2,500.00 and a trophy, and was presented by Dato’ Gooi Hoe Chin, Chairman of the Malaysian Timber Council and witnessed by YB Datuk Sri Mah Siew Keong, Minister of Planttion Industries and Commodities. The Design that won the prize was for a “Cookies” Community Centre, A second Year Design Project Supervised by Dr. Abdul Halim bin Hussein of the Department of Architecture.

PhD candidate won Best Paper Award in Canada

Congratulations to Noor Azeyah Khiyon, PhD candidate at the UTM Faculty of Built Environment under the supervision of Dr Sarajul Fikri bin Mohamed, for winning the Best Paper Award at the 21st Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors 2017 in Vancouver, Canada.Her paper, entitled ‘Whole Life Cycle Costing for Sustainable Facility Management’ which deals with the very relevant issue of sustainability in today’s world. Noor Azeyah is also an academic staff at the University of Reading Malaysia.

UTM Architecture Students win ARCHITALENT Design Competition

UTM Architecture students won the Grand Prize and the First Runner-up Prize for ARCHITALENT Architectural Student Design Competition, which was held from 11 May to 20 July 2017 in conjunction with the 18th International Architecture, Interior Design & Building Exhibition 2017 (ARCHIDEX17). The competition was organised by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) in collaboration with C.I.S Network Sdn. Bhd. Over 70 submissions were sent by students of accredited architecture schools and institutions across Malaysia, where 20 shortlisted finalists presented their ideas to a panel of industry-led judges at the Plenary Theatre of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 20 July 2017. JOHOR BAHRU, 3 Julai 2017 – Seramai lima staf Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) berada di Kemboja selama tiga hari mulai 19 Jun lalu bagi mempromosikan pendekatan  Service  Learning  dalam gagasan Akademia Baru dan libatsama dalam jaringan projek komuniti di negara berkenaan. Fakulti Pendidikan UTM Anjur Program Komuniti Berimpak Tinggi

JOHOR BAHRU 29 Mei 2017 – Seramai enam orang pensyarah dan 90 orang pelajar Fakulti Pendidikan (FP), Fakulti Alam Bina (FAB) dan Kelab Astronomi Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) terlibat dalam Program Ekspresi Negaraku Johor Bersih 2.0. Program tersebut telah diadakan di Kampung Sungai Melayu, Gelang Patah, Johor pada 19 dan 20 Mei lalu. Program itu diilham dan dicetuskan oleh inisiatif Jawatankuasa Penyelarasan Komuniti dan Jaringan Fakulti Pendidikan UTM melalui subjek Bina Insan Guru (BIG) dengan menggunakan pendekatan kolaborasi strategik dalam gagasan National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).
