Pelajar Sarjana Muda Perancangan Bandar Dan Wilayah, Fakulti Alam Bina Memenangi Tempat Kedua Dalam Pertandingan Reka Bentuk Medan PMINT – Medan Expresi Rakyat

Penyampaian hadiah berupa sijil serta cek bernilai RM 7,500.00 yang telah di sampaikan oleh Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Terengganu, YB Dato’ Haji Osman bin Muda kepada pelajar Sarjana Muda Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah, FAB Sekumpulan pelajar Sarjana Muda Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah, Fakulti Alam Bina, UTM telah memenangi tempat kedua dalam Pertandingan Reka Bentuk Medan PMINT dengan berkonsepkan “Medan Ekspresi Rakyat” yang telah diadakan pada 6 Mei 2015 anjuran Perbadanan Memajukan Iktisad Negeri Terengganu (PMINT). Dr. Mehdi and Team Won Gold Medal, Special Award and 4th. Best Project at MRCIE 2015

Dr. Mehdi Moeinaddini, Dr. Zahid Sultan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zaly Shah from Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB) and Dr. Zohreh Asadi Shekari, a post doctoral researcher at Center for Innovative Planning and Development (CiPD), FAB, won three (3) awards – a gold medal, Special Award and 4 th.  Best Project at Malaysian Research Conference and Innovation Exhibition 2015 (MRCIE 2015) for their innovative Smart Environment Monitoring (SEM) device. The event was organised by the Research and Innovation Section,  UniKL, MITEC on 2 nd.  – 3 rd.  December 2015 at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Malaysian Institute of Industrials Technology (MITEC), Persiaran Sinaran Ilmu, Bandar Seri Alam, Johor Bahru, Johor. PAWDEX Awarded Gold Prize at SIIF (Seoul International Invention Fair) 2015

November 29 – UTM-ISIIC FAB- FKA team won a Gold Award at SIIF 2015 for the development and commercialization of PAWDEX, an Urban Walkability Index Analysis Model. The multidisciplinary research team which was spearheaded by Assoc. Prof Dr. Hasanuddin Lamit; consists of Dr. Arezou Shafaghat, Dr. Ali Keyvanfar,  Dr. Kherun Nita Ali, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaimi Abd. Majid, and Prof. Dr. Mohd Hamdan Ahmad. The research project was also supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysian Highway Authority (Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia-LLM), Qatar Road Safety Studies Centre (RSSC), and the Institute of Sultan Iskandar (ISI). The team has won the judges attention to their Urban Walkability Decision Support tool which was developed to be used by local government agencies to enhance low-energy and low-emission urban development policies. JPBW Monthly Seminar: “Town Planning From The Private Sector Perspective”

An alumni of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Encik Abdul Razak bin Mohd Yusoff, Chief Executive of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), a State of Johore Government Link Company (GLC) delivered an elightening talk in JPBW Monthly Seminar on 3 rd  December 2015. Encik Abdul Razak bin Mohd Yusoff is a graduate of Urban and Regional Planning, UTM in 1987 and has a Post Graduate degree in Land Economics from Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan.  He began his career in the late 1980’s as a Research Assistant (RA) at FAB and moved on to become a Contractor with YTL, a Turnkey Contractor with Trans Resources Corporation (TRC), a Developer with TRC Development Sdn. Bhd., a Township Developer with Island and Peninsular (I&P) Group Sdn. Bhd. He is then appointed as the Chief Executive of KPRJ in Mei 2015. Read more...

UTM Shares Knowledge with Thai Authorities on Housing Development in Iskandar Malaysia

Prof. Dr. Tarawut Boonlua, Head of Thai Delegates; third from right is Mr. Chau Loon Wai, Lecturer from Urban and Regional Planning Department, FAB UTM Johor Bahru –  Twenty two (22)    officials from the National Housing Authority (NHA) and Nakon Rachasima Office, Thailand, led by two senior academics from the Mahasarakham University (MSU), visited the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM Johor Bahru and Iskandar Malaysia on 24 November 2015. The visit was part of MSU’s joint research with the two Thai authorities in search of international best practice models for housing development. Twenty two students from the 3 rd  Year, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning Programme,  Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, UTM visited Batam on 3 rd . November 2015 as part of the academic activities for the course SBEP3243 Planning Practice. The objective of the visit was to expose students to the planning practice in neighbouring countries. Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Mehdi and his team for winning  a  Bronze medal  in the INATEX 2015 UTM. Dr. Mehdi and his team had  invented  a new device to measure air and noise pollution  known as smart environment monitoring (SEM)  under his  FRGS research on “Systematic methods in street design for non-motorised trips in urban areas”. UTM Faculty of Built Environment Students Won Second Prize at the “Analysis of Habitat Scenario 2015” Competition

Ms. Ellida representative from Team UTM (C) received the second prize cheque worth RM3,000.00 and certificates from YBhg. Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister A group of students from Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning and Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia won the second prize in the final competition “Analysis of Habitat Scenario 2015: Quality of Life in the Low Cost Housing”, organized by the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government. International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design 2015

The delegates from Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor. The 1st International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design were conducted on 4 – 11 th September 2015 between Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor. The workshop was participated by 9 students from third year architecture in SIT and also by 10 students from third year landscape architecture, UTM. The topic that been addressed for the studio’s project was ‘Regeneration of the old town Johor Bahru’. Read more...

UTM-SEC Collaboration Makes Real Contributions to Reconciling Tensions between Tourism and Heritage Conservation in Melaka

UTM’s Faculty of Built Environment Hosts Five Japanese Students under the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program

In line with UTM’s continuous drive to enhance its regional and global presence, and its consistent emphasis on producing high quality graduates with ever broader global outlook and exposure, the Faculty of Built Environment has embarked on yet another student international mobility program in the 2015/2016 academic session. The  Department of Urban and Regional Planning will proudly host three (3)  undergraduate students from the Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) who will be undergoing the Non-graduating Students (NGS) Programme in Semester 1, 2015/2016, commencing on 06 September 2015.  TMU reciprocates by receiving Anatasia Lee Anak Suring, Nurzafirah binti Dan and Beatrice Jenner Anak David Jutin  from final year Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning programme to undergo a similar program in TMU over the same period. Strategic Collaboration between Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) and Department of Urban and Regional Planning Takes Off

UTM Leads the Way to an Asian Urban Agenda

UTM Johor Bahru  – The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), together with the Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA), successfully organised the  13 th International Congress of Asian Planning Schools Association  ( APSA 2015 ) on 12-14 August 2015. Through  APSA 2015 , UTM leads the way towards formulating an Asian Urban Agenda that will guide planning education and practice in Asia into the 21 st  Century.  This is  crucial especially in anticipation of the unique and unprecedented diversity, intensity, complexity and authenticity issues of urbanisation in Asia. Dr Wahid: Urban Planners Must Cater for Population Growth

Photo Credit: The Star JOHOR BARU: Long-term planning is needed to ensure that urban areas are able to grow to their fullest potential and provide comfortable living conditions for its denizens. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar said major cities in the region were faced with issues of congestion due to the increasing population. “Major cities, currently only have short-term solutions without taking into account problems which might rise in the long run for city dwellers. “According to a World Bank report, Kuala Lumpur lost about RM30bil in revenue as city dwellers were losing out on their productivity level being stuck in traffic congestion daily,” he said.
